Just a tad before 3:00 in the afternoon, I'll be setting up the yard. If you care to join me as I lift lights and decorate, please feel free to stop by and assist if you're interested.
COVID ERA CELEBRATING: During this year's COVID outbreak, the neighborhood gathering, like all outdoor events, should incorporate precautions for safety, masks where appropriate, and family units maintaining a minimum of distance of six feet apart from other family units. Neighbors and Individuals not sharing homes should stay at least six feet apart from other individuals. We'll try to make this fun by using pool noodles. (Ah, come on, we gotta have some comic relief) While near food, condiments, ice, and drinks, and sharing games with neighbors, please wear masks for sanitary reasons. (Masks will be provided)
INDIVIDUAL GRILLS: Prior to the COVID OUTBREAK I acquired a few individual grills to share on a beach outing for my 5th grader grandchild's class. As that opportunity was cancelled during spring break, it seems only natural to share these items with my neighbors. It is a small grill, just right for a child to use being monitored by a parent. Additionally, there should be a few adult grills as well. Each family can use a grill, six feet apart from the other families.
COMPLIMENTARY PROVIDED ITEMS FOR GRILLING: Each Grill will have a set of charcoal, starter, matches, hotdogs and buns.
LARRY WILL BE GRILLING ON HIS COOKER: I've given Larry approximately $100.00 to buy food for the neighborhood to grill on his grill. I have no idea what he will be purchasing, but the neighborhood is welcome to whatever he grills until that runs out this weekend. Of course you can always bring something for him to grill. You'll be able to watch him cook and request your preferences. Just remember to wear your mask as you approach the grill and don't touch the grill or utensils on his table, to keep his items sanitary.
SMOKER: You're welcome to use a smoker I have here. I would really enjoy smoking something in it, but I am unsure how to use it. So if you're interested, RSVP, or just mention something when you come by. There are three nights of celebrating so at least six families will have an opportunity to use the smoker, I would imagine.
SEATING Remember that Ugly Bunch of Hay Stacks in my yard by last fall? They were brought in for a reason. They' were to have been seats while watching a movie. This time I only acquired two Hay Stacks. There will be other seating... United, just six feet apart this year. Family grouping six feet apart, and individual six foot placemarks will be identified.
FOOD BUFFET & COVID AWARENESS I'll have a table of food and munchies. For those who RSVP, a steak for you to cook on individual grills. Additionally, because of COVID AWARENESS you may wish to bring your own food to grill, or a prepared picnic for your own family. If you don't wish to eat THAT's Fine. Just stopping over for a chat, or a pop by while strolling, or just a curious wave... all are welcome.
BLANKETS & UTENSILS I'll have blankets, Plates, Napkins, Forks, Knives, etc. But I could use some help with the placement of such utensils. If you can't find utensils, they will be in the patriotic chest of drawers... help yourself.
PHOTOGRAPHS and PICTURE AREA I'm looking for a good photographer. Though I have a camera, my mind and eyes will be focused on serving you, my guests. Everybody has a cell phone with a camera nowadays it seems, but I still prefer photographs from a camera. If you feel you have a good sense of photography you're welcome to use my camera and help out a bit. I'm looking for a volunteer to monitor a photo area as well. You know, not so much a booth, but a designated backdrop and accessories to make the picture fun. A volunteer to ensure no child pokes out their eye with a prop or jabs a friend with a selfie stick. I really do need a volunteer here.
MOVIES: Yes, movies. Let's HOPE this one actually takes place. I have a digital projector, but the connections are not new. IF you're a techie and know what microUSB to digital HDMI is... PLEASE Give me a shout. I"m having trouble locating some cords. These cords are necessary to make viewing movies a possibility.
MARSHMALLOW ROASTING: If everyone's well behaved and reasonable, let's roast some marshmallows. or even maybe some smores. (Chocolate snuggled next to a marshmallow between two graham crackers.... then heated).
ICE CREAM CORNER: I have a crank ice cream maker, and a few others. The Ice Cream area will need a coordinator, and I"m looking for volunteers. If you have a favorite recipe, toss it to me VIA EMAIL and 'll try and whip up some of your ice cream favorites...
POPCORN and COTTON CANDY CORNER: If I am lucky we'll have a popcorn machine. However I'm running out of time gathering items. I have a tiny (almost a toy) cotton candy machine, but if it works well, it can be fun. It is like me, it's get up and go has almost got up and went. It requires
ICE & CLEAN UP: There's never enough ice. I will have ice in the beginning. Invariably we will run out of ice. There is an ice machine close near the laundrymat and Dollar General and I'll pay for the ice if someone will volunteer to go get some as we run out of ice. And then, alas, there is clean up. If you can think to bring a trash bag, I'd appreciate it. If you're helpful enough to put your trash in a bag, it'll make clean up easier. If you'll be looking for trash bags... they'll be in the drawer of the patriotic dresser.
